The Anadolu Pony is a small-sized Turkish breed popular for its versatile nature, hardy disposition (as it was bred to thrive in poor and hazardous conditions), high level of endurance and immense speed.

Anadolu Pony Video

History

The Anadolu pony is an outcome of extensive interbreeding, while traces of Akhal-Teke, Turkoman (modern version of the Turkmenistan horses) and the Persian horse are found in it. Certain evidences also depict that the blood of Mongolian, Karabakh, Arab, Kabarda and Deliboz had also been induced for developing the Anadolu Pony of the modern times.

Though professors M. Nurettin Aral and Salahattin Batu, exerts in the field of veterinary medicine is of the opinion that the breed differs on the basis of the location in which they are found like the East Anadolu and South East Anadolu. Needing minimum maintenance and care it does not cause too much of a hassle to its owner. Existing in all areas in Turkey, there are about 930,000 of them at present.

  • The translation of Anadolu indicates “Turkey on Asia”.
